  • Steven Elliott, DVM,CCRP

    Steven Elliott, DVM,CCRP

    Dr. Elliott is a native of the Midwest, growing up in small town Iowa. His love for animals early in life put him on track to becoming a veterinarian. He received his undergraduate from Buena Vista University before obtaining his doctor of veterinary medicine from Iowa State University in 1995. After Practicing five years in Minnesota, Dr. Elliott found his way to fun and sun in Florida and has practiced with Animal Care Center INC. ever since.

    In 2008 Dr. Elliott completed training at the University of Tennessee for Certification in Canine Rehabilitation. This became a special interest of  Dr. Elliott's after realizing he could offer more to his patients that were recovering from surgeries, suffering injuries, arthritis and obesity or needing more physical fitness.

    Dr. Elliott lives with his wife, Dr. Kim Cox who is a veterinary surgeon, a beautiful daughter and a house full of pets.

    When away from the hospital he enjoys spending time with his family, singing with the church praise band and when possible playing golf and fishing.

    Carla Channell, DVM

    Carla graduated from the University of Florida in 2006.  Most of her patients are dogs and cats, but she also enjoys seeing pocket pets, reptiles, and other exotics.  Her interests include soft tissue surgery, internal medicine, and supporting the Human-Animal Bond.  She has several four legged "kids" of her own: a dog, two cats, and a leopard tortoise.  Carla practices at Best Care Animal Hospital.

    Joanna, Practice Manager

    Joanna began working at Animal Care Center in 2000 as a veterinary technician. She has a special interest in canine and feline behavior and before becoming manager at Best Care Animal Hospital she ran puppy kindergarten classes at Country Oaks Animal Hopsital for 5 years. Joanna also enjoyed teaching humans and pets how to overcome seperation anxiety and fear based behaviors through positive reinforcement and owner education.

    These days she enjoys fostering a positive work environment for the team at Best Care Animal Hospital and providing continued education opportunities to all team members.

    Joanna is married and has two wonderful children at home. She has 4 pets, 2 dogs, Coolee and Optimus Prime(op) and 2 cats, Bumblebee and Catilac.

  • Gwenn- RVT, CCRP, Lead Technician

    Gwenn- RVT, CCRP, Lead Technician

    Gwenn started at Best Care in 2008 and brings over16 years of veterinary experience to our practice, ranging from emergency medicine, specialty medicine and general practice. Gwenn attended Central Carolina Community College and received the designation RVT (registered veterinary technician) and later attended the University of Tennessee to receive the designation CCRP (certified canine rehabilitation practitioner). Gwenn is dedicated canine rehabilitation and currently assists Dr. Steven Elliott in Best Care's canine rehabilitation program. She also has a passion for healthy weight management and has helped many obese patients with weight loss programs.

    Gwenn also has a furry family of her own, two rotties (Mateo and Gabby) one dachshund (Charlie), one lab (Nyla) and one cat (Trouble). Gwenn is also the proud mother of three beautiful children.

    During her free time she enjoys running and exploring local dog parks.

    Anna- Veterinary Technician

    Anna started in 2004 working as an Animal Care Attendant, and was quickly moved up and worked as a  Best Care receptionist, but her true calling was veterinary technician. Anna creates a strong bond with her patients and truly cares about their well-being. This care and passion for patient care is why Anna has been put in charge of our kitten adoption program (Best Care Buddies). Many kittens have Anna to thank for her help in finding their forever homes!

    Anna is married and has two lovely daughters. She also has a couple of pets of her own, Gizzy a feisty Pekingese who loves his toys and a bird named Chopper. Anna also has a special rescue, her name is Demonette. Demonette was apart of Best Care's adoption program and was unadoptable due to her "special" attitude, but she loved Anna! So Anna took her in and know Demonette has a forever home.

    Valerie- Veterinary Technician

    Valerie joined the Best Care family in August of 2010 and comes to us with experience in emergency medicine and general practice. Valerie has a special interest in veterinary dentistry and since coming to Best Care she has attended multiple continuing education events on veterinary dentistry and she is currently studying to become a certified veterinary dental technician. Valerie enjoys developing relationships with our patients and clients and finds it rewarding when clients ask for her by name.

    When at home Valerie has three dogs, Dawson, Daisy and Tucker and two cats, Mittens and Edgar. Edgar was one of our Best Care kittens and he fell in love with Valerie and he decided he wanted to go home with her!

    Christine has worked for Animal Care Center INC. since 2005. She has worked in all aspects of veterinary medicine from Animal Care Attendant to technician to receptionist! Christine is also able to work at all three of our facilities.
    Christine has a strong interest in client satisfaction and education.

    Laura- Lead Receptionist

    Laura is our Lead Receptionist and has been for the past 3 years, she has worked at Best Care since 2005. Laura is dedicated to the art of client satisfaction and education, Laura strives to make all of our clients happy and better educated about what is best for their pets.

    Laura is married with 4 wonderful children and her furry family includes three dogs, Mia, Bella and Pomula and one cat named Roxy. Three of her pets came from Best Care, she rescued them through our adoption program.

    Yvette- Receptionist

    Yvette has worked at Best Care since 2008 as a veterinary receptionist. Yvette enjoys educating clients about the importance of preventative medicine, including heart worm prevention and flea prevention. She also has a special interest in canine behavior and when possible attends continued education seminars on behavior.

    Yvette is married with two children and a beautiful granddaughter, her furry family includes two dogs, Frankie and Sasha and a sassy feline named Gidget.

    Gina- Receptionist

    Gina works as a veterinary receptionist and has been with us since 2010 and this is Gina's first job in veterinary medicine. Gina enjoys observing procedures and asking questions about procedures, this way she can better educate our clients.

    Gina is married with a wonderful son, her furry extended family includes two dogs Kona and Mailie. Kona is a mix breed dog that Gina adopted from Best Care's adoption program.

    Millie- Groomer, Animal Care Attendant

    Millie is Best Care Animal Hospital's Pet Stylist and has been for the past 19 years! Millie works in every aspect of veterinary medicine, she works as a receptionist and animal care attendant.

    Millie has been called the "shear whisperer" by some of her clients because their dogs and cats look so beautiful when they go home. Millie is one of the few groomers that will style cats. Cats can be difficult to groom, but Millie has a way with her cat clients, a calming effect. Her "spa" guests go home feeling refreshed and clean.

    On her free time Millie enjoys cooking very much and has made some amazing dishes for company functions.

  • Bob- Animal Care Attendant

    Bob- Animal Care Attendant

    Bob has worked at Best Care Animal Hospital since 2008, but comes to us with vast experience in veterinary medicine. He has managed and ran large boarding kennels and assisted veterinarians and technicians. Bob currently does a lot of Best Cares outside maintenance work, such as grooming trees and bushes and keeps out landscape in tip top condition. Bob has a way with animal and people, he makes all of our boarding guests feel right at home in our kennel. The boarding guests love to see Bob coming because he always has a little treat in his pocket for them!

    At home Bob has four dog family members.

    Brittney works at both Country Oaks and Best Care! She has been Country Oaks' full time groomer for about two years.

    Brittney also works as an Animal Care Attendant for both Best Care and Country Oaks.

    Megan-Animal Care Attendant

    Megan began her veterinary career at Best Care as a volunteer in 2008 while she Attended high school. She expressed a strong interest in veterinary medicine and did so well as a volunteer that she was offered a job as an Animal Care Attendant in 2011. Megan enjoys assisting Gwenn, our rehabilitation technician in the under water tread mill and with all other aspects of canine rehabilitation.

    Megan also has an eye for photography and has photographed many of our company events and fund raisers. Megan took almost all of the photos that are displayed on our website.

    At home Megan has three furry family members, two dogs and one cat.

  • Highway

    Highway

    Highway is our "house cat", he lives here at Best Care and loves it. He has made his home in Joanna's office and is affectionately called the assistant manager. Highway has a disability but you would never know, a car accident left him with only two front legs. Even though he only has two legs he runs around Best Care as if he owns the place, which in his mind he does!
